A.J. Bass Opticians and Contact Lens Centre has been proudly serving the local community since 1983, when the practice was founded by Tony Bass in The Borough of Downton. From the very beginning, the focus was clear: to provide personalised, high-quality eye care built on trust, professionalism, and genuine patient relationships. In the early years, the practice was run by Tony as the Optometrist, alongside his father George as the Dispensing Optician creating a true family-led service at the heart of the community.

In 1987, a second practice opened on the High Street in Fordingbridge, continuing the same family values and commitment to exceptional care. Over the years, the practice grew, welcoming dedicated team members many of whom remained part of the practice for over 25 years reflecting the supportive and patient-focused ethos that defines A.J. Bass Opticians.

In 2017, Tony Bass retired and entrusted the future of the practices to Mr Mohammedraza Kanji, an Optometrist who shares the same professional values and commitment to clinical excellence. Under his leadership, the practice has continued to evolve while staying true to its roots. Today, we remain proud to serve our community with care, compassion, and clinical expertise.
